Firstly, one needs to visit the official TN Chennai website of the TNePDS/TNPDS. The link to the said website is as follows: https://www.tnpds.gov.in/home.xhtml
Find the dialogue box on the home page which says Smart Card Application Services. It would have two options:
- Smart Card Application
- Smart Card Application Status
The dialogue box would look like this:
- Click on the Smart Card Application and proceed ahead.
- Right at the top, go for “New Smart Card Application”
In this case, you will have to fill up a bunch of necessary information before you get to clinch your chennai smart ration card in chennai. Those details are as follows:
- Name of Family Head
- Father/Husband Name
- Pin Code
- Address Line 1, 2 and 3
- Mobile Number
Email ID and Landline Number is temporary though, however, you need to fill the rest of the information.
On the extreme right, there is an upload section. In this tab, you need to upload a passport sized photograph of your Family Head, presumably your father/mother/husband/yourself etc for approval for new rashan in chennai.
Finalizing your process

Then you have to upload a scanned copy of your Proof of Address to the website servers. There are two tick boxes which are:

Ration Card Download/Correction
To download your Chennai Ration Card, register your mobile Number with the authorities first up.
The website would look like this:
Enter the given credentials, that is:
- Registered Mobile Number
- 6-digit CAPTCHA code
After logging in, you will be directed to the Citizen login page. Therein, you can go through all the options such Download and Correction etc.
In the Download section, they are more likely to ask you to enter your Registered Mobile Number along with your Name or not, most likely. Enter the same and an OTP or One Time Password will be sent to your mobile number.
The OTP is there for authentication purposes. It increases the barrier of security in the overall process. The OTP stays valid for 5 minutes only. So, do not waste time while going through the process.

Finish your procedure and note down your acknowledgement number for future references.
Chennai Ration Card Status
Once you done with new application, now you can track the status of the application. Just right below the new application you will access the “Application status” just click on to track the status of your application.
Tracking the application status requires your mobile number and reference number which is allocated to you when you applied for new card online.
